A gentle foxtaur with severe social anxiety due to her tailmaw.
Selene had everything an anthro could dream of. Sure, she looked unusual - she was a large foxtaur with no visible features and her tail was multiple times the usual length. But her owners cared about her, she went to school from a young age, and despite the constant bullying due to being a foxtaur, even made a friend. She lost everything at the age of 12 when, after the bullies shifted their attention to her friend Sarah instead of herself, her tailmaw woke up for the first time, and swallowed the girl in an attempt to protect her. Selene was horrified by her own tail's actions and promptly tranquilized like an animal to free the girl, who joined the bullies and peppered her with rocks.
On her way to be euthanized, she was instead brought to a GeneCorp facility, and studied as she was, in fact, created as an experiment. The project was thought to have failed and she was sold as a civilian anthro until the tailmaw incident... Unfortunately, the strong trauma caused Selene to will the tailmaw into dormancy, and it never awoke. She was then sold again to a foreign military, where she was relentlessly mocked by the other recruits, and she coped by doing nothing but train at the gym and range. Her strength and extremely accurate shooting only distanced her more, and her social anxiety kept getting worse. Still, she became a proficient anti-materiel sniper in the field, but was sold out by her spotter who used her as his ticket to deserting the army altogether... As if Selene's bad experiences with people had not been enough. Captured, she surrendered without a fight, expecting - hoping, even - to be executed. But she never was.
Instead, she was taken to a remote military base where she became a caretaker in a daycare, for all the soldier's children. The kids seemed to really enjoy the big and fluffy "Miss Fox", and she finally felt happy. She even taught herself to cook various beloved meals for the kids, read them stories (the story of Green Hood specifically influenced her decision to become a ranger in Kjarisk), and ever since that accident in middle school, her tailmaw still never showed up again. Unfortunately... All good things always come to an end. One morning, an indescribable feeling of dread woke Selene up. All the adults on the base had gone insane. Selene, for the very first time in her life, shot a living being to protect the children. A strange feeling drew her to lead the children to the forest, where she knew they'd be safe... And as she returned to the base, a GeneCorp truck was waiting for her. When she tried to explain them what had happened, she was shot on the spot by soldiers wearing gas masks and truck departed, leaving her for dead.
Fate had other plans. See, Selene had doned her antiballistic vest while leading the children out of the base, so it only led to her getting knocked out. Her faith in humanity and other people were hanging by a thread at this point. For a few weeks, she stayed on the base, alone, sulking. She wanted to die. The stress she was going through was so intense that her tailmaw had reawakened. The thing that led her down this path in the first place... She couldn't control it. It behaved in its own, and regardless of how often it tried to show affection, Selene pushed it away, hating it more than anything, saying horrible things to it. One morning, that was just too much for her. (Warning: themes of suicide.) She wanted to end it all with one revolver bullet, and she would. Not even her tailmaw would be able to stop her, and it apparently had accepted its fate... But she wanted to do it in the forest. Where the kids were spirited away, to a safer, better place... Where she was for the last time with people that she cared about. What happened, before she even got the chance to pick up her firearm and pull the trigger, is that she was "transported" herself. She never found that spot again, and instead left the forest in front of a town.
Curiosity took over. Selene decided to investigate, her foolish deathwish could wait. Years and years of trauma terrible experiences with people led her to avoid everyone - and it was clear that everyone was avoiding her. The few people that approached her were a gang of thieves who beat her up and stole her very few belongings, only fleeing when her tail sprung to life to scare them away, calling her a monster in the process. Her gun was still with her. She sat down in the streets, all alone, staring at it for a few minutes... When a voice called her out. A white crow on the rooftops, beckoning her. he climbed down, and offered her some food. Expecting him to be but another thief, she unexpectdly managed to order her tailmaw to choke him out, and she snatched his backpack before galloping away... But stopped after a few seconds. This was the first genuine act of kindness she'd ever received since... Ever. What kind of a monster was she? No, she wouldn't go that far.
Full of shame and regret, she walked back and helped the crow up... An act that would change both of their lives forever. Bryce had found the companionship he was looking for, and Selene had found someone that accepted her for who she was, going as far as to give her tailmaw the name of Rue. Together, they survived in the Old Capital long enough to make a few friends, misfits like them... Aaron, Galycia. They ultimately gathered up enough resources and valuable and bought their ticket to a better life by taking a one way trip to Kjarisk, where Selene became a respected shooting instructor and a ranger whose knowledge of the forest rivals that of even Wayrra.
Vore: Despite her impressive size, Selene is a switch, though the predators who can take on her taur form are few. It's a good thing she can shift into an anthro thanks to her ring (and other forms, too).
Fact: Selene possesses a few kitsune-like abilities, even without the shapeshifting ring from Galycia and Aaron. Her fur can safely absorb things and release them later (she keeps a revolver from her time in the army hidden there as a memento), and her elongated tail can split into more smaller ones... And just as many tailmaws.
